Medical Tourism & mHealth Forum
A growing number of patients are learning about the benefits of medical tourism, however, coordinating a medical trip can be a complicated endeavor. Apart from the travel logistics, there are a number of health-related factors to consider such as pre-operative exams, medical records, doctor collaboration and aftercare. To overcome these challenges, new advances in mobile health technology are necessary to assist medical providers to keep up with this new generation of mobile patients.
While internet growth and penetration continues to expand, the number of mobile phone users exceeds the number of internet users. Accordingly to a report by the Pew Research Center, 91% of U.S. adults own a cell phone and 56% own smartphones. Additionally, nearly a third of cell phone owners (31%) have used their phone to research health information. In a similar national survey carried out two years ago found that nearly one in five cell phone owners had used their devices to search for medical advice.
This year we will focus an entire track of sessions to this increasingly important topic of mHealth. Attendees will learn from top researchers and policymakers about new advances in mobile technologies and how they can be effectively used to benefit international patients and medical providers.
